The March Violets announce tour dates

To celebrate the release of the band's first album proper, 'Made Glorious', The March Violets have announced a string of tour dates for the end of the year.

Saturday the 26th October - Hebden Bridge Trades Club, “Ted Hughes Festival”
Bridge, at a rather gorgeous venue, the Trades Club. Rosie will be there the day before doing some poetical stuff.

Sunday the 27th October - Preston Continental, “John Peel Week”
We have always claimed that John Peel changed our lives, among with many others. We did 3 Peel Sessions. So it is rather satisfying to play a tribute to him during John Peel Week, at The Continental in Preston, along with some fellow Peelite friends: Flesh For Lulu, John Hyatt from the Three Johns, and The Inca Babies. Quite a line up!

Friday 1st November - ?
We will be no doubt getting dressed up for something… tell you later ;)

Sunday 3rd November – Whitby, The Coliseum, “DV8”
We will be playing a nice little venue in Whitby, the Coliseum. An earlyish start, sometime after the footie and finishing early so you can head up to Nostalgia.

Sunday 10th November - Newcastle, Trillians.
A visit to the lovely city of Newcastle, Trillians. First gig here since the early 80’s!

Friday 22nd November - London, Islington O2 Academy.
Back to Islington London for a bit of a do at the O2 Academy 2.

Saturday 23rd November -Leeds, Brudenell Social Club.
Home for a Final Purple Party at the wonderful Brudenell Social Club.

Review: The March Violets - 'Made Glorious'

The product of a successful crowd-sourcing campaign and a tantalising thirty years in the making comes The March Violets first proper album in the form of 'Made Glorious'. 2011's 'Love Will Kill You' EP provided the first glimpse of a focussed and reinvigorated Violets that a foot firmly in their classic post-punk meets goth sound with a distinctly progressive twenty-first century sheen. But will 'Made Glorious' provide the fans with the closure they have craved for so long?

The album distils the essence of the band's early singles like 'Snake Dance' and 'Walk Into The Sun' into a refined, dreamy, almost psychedelic style to songs like 'A Room With No View', 'Of Roses', 'Dandelion King' and '2024' that feels fresh and shows off the full extent of the band's song writing talent. The strong bass lines and driving drum machine give the album a solid groove throughout songs such as 'Made Glorious', 'We Are All Gods III', 'Little Punk Thing', and 'My Demons' which show they still have plenty of dance floor appeal. But the band aren't afraid to get a little playful as songs like 'Tokyo Flow', 'Discoboy Must Die' and 'Ramming Speed' inject both some humour and pure punk attitude into the record.

As with the EP before it, the band are at their strongest when they delve into the more sublime end of their song writing. But there is still something undeniably compelling about their tried and tested sound, even after all these years.

The time taken over the production side of the album is evident from the opening bars. It has a recognisably analogue vibe to it, but loses the 80's roughness of their earlier recordings in favour of a more dynamic and richer sound. The bass and drums tend to dominate the mix with the dual vocals, guitars and a variety of other instrumentals often fading in and out of songs giving them a more ethereal atmosphere.

It's been along time coming, but The March Violets have delivered on that album they always promised to make. The high quality of the song writing, performance and production is the product of a long journey, but it was well worth the wait.

The March Violets reveal final track list

The March Violets have revealed the final track list for their eagerly awaited forthcoming album and follow-up to 2011's 'Love Will Kill You' EP.

Speaking on the band's pledge campaign page, Si Denbigh had this to say:

“We wanted to have a definitive list that we wouldn’t have to change for vinyl. I’m a bit old school about Albums, I like it to play as the artist intended and don’t want to jump about or listen to ‘bonus tracks’ stuck on the end of a classic Album. Luckily modern playlisting allows those of you who like to pick and mix to listen how you like. Win Win.“It gets better… as this Album has gradually mutated into what will have to be a double LP if it gets on to vinyl, I have added another track to make sense of the timing per side. We are now up to 16, Hurrah!”
