END: the DJ's Top Music Picks- January 2014

END: the DJ’s Top New Music Picks January 2014

There’s been some fantastic club tracks in a variety of electronic music styles that’s coming up on the horizon to kick off a fantastic new year of music. Let’s take a look:

Cristian Myt - 'Kurte Tu Fantasy' - Login Records
Each time I hear this ‘True to Nature’ EP, my favourite track changes, it’s THAT much of a solid piece of work- so ask me if this track is the best tomorrow, I might name you one of the other four. The low beats are haunting yet heavy, the melody is clubby yet melodic. It is straight up dark techno with hardcore elements. Login Records has hit us with the first awesome release of the year!

Dimensional Explosion - 'Phonophobia' - [unsigned]
This would be the best track of the month overall if it wasn’t new to me and to those who follow Andre W. aka E.I.D (his former project). Andre has been cultivating Dimensional Explosion this past year and it’s time everyone finally get to hear what he’s been up to- and as always, I’m champion his work; a ‘crunchy’ yet melodic noise sound at its experimental finest. It’s INSANE that this project is unsigned. This should change very soon!

Claes Rosen - 'Starlight' (Blood Groove & Kikis Remix) - Green Mono Music
When the newly released compilation from the Green Mono label was sent to me, I was honestly a tad bit skeptical. Though I appreciate all styles of club music, as a personal listener I had become very weary of some of the direction variations of progressive & other more lighter styles music had gone some years ago. Much of it became a bit too pop-formulated for my taste. More hooks, less depth; yet here was some new music presented to me, I had to check it out…and am very satisfied with what was thumping out of my speakers. This track has the kind of depth & substance I’ve missed out of these more rhythmic styles of EDM. Thanks for bringing me back, G.M.M.!

Blak Opz - 'Long Live the New Flesh' - DWA
This track hits you in the fkn face. Love this. It’s a progression of the harsh EBM sound: I wasn’t sure if the style had any more methods to throw at us and then Blak Opz shows us the way. Throw this on a dance floor and watch everyone go crazy.

Dan’iel - 'The Music' - Conzoom Records
Great synth pop track, the melody and vocals are very moving and textured. All of the tracks from “The Book” album should be heard.

Orquesm - 'Dikke Pret' - Login Records
The Login label charts again in the top picks with this track off the new Stampot EP from Orquesm. Certain tracks can hit the clubs like a sonic wave and roll over you- this one doesn’t disappoint!

Doc Trashz - 'Brainwashing' - Trashz Recordz
Known for some of the best new dirty and glitchy Electro sound, Trashz Recordz has been a steady source of music to break ya neck to for a little while now. Doc Trashz, the label’s founder, releases his own monster of a track and it is beat driven! Not meant for tiny speakers or ear buds or you miss some of the intricate work that went into this one.

Ben'Yala - 'From Citta To Neapolis' - ETT Recordings
ETT Recordings storms out the gate this new year with this driving massive track. You’ll love the way this builds towards the break and then holds you to the club floor. Loving this one.

[product] - 'The Blind' (iVardensphere Remix) - Vendetta Music
Somehow iVardensphere found the time while creating his new album to put his signature stamp on a new track from [product]’s new album. I would say iVS has to sleep sometime, yet you wouldn’t know it from the great production work on this remix. Compliments [product]’s sound nicely!

Flatline - 'Your Love' - Compactonez Records
Flatline’s new album hit in late December and this standout track has garnered its own official video (now up on YouTube) which helps even more to spotlight on the great work on this track. A very driven track and great vocals & lyrics. Great new EBM mover!

That’s not all. Check out these other noteworthy releases to move to:

Novikoff - 'Addictive' (DJ Generous Remix) - Green Mono Music
Another track from G.M.M.’s recently released compilation. The flow on this track is addictive, I couldn’t stop moving even while trying to sit still. Great remix on this one.

Mark Bester feat. Love Dimension - 'Love Is Good' - ETT Recordings
ETT continues its label dominance by releasing another awesome track to the masses. The label seems to know the talent they seem to have in Love Dimension’s vocals, which wrap smoothly around the production work of this track by Mark Bester. Yet another high quality ETT club track!

Groovetonic - 'Boom Chacka' (Leon Blaq Remix) - Supermarket Records
This is a driving floor filler from the Supermarket. Love the build up!

Prismism - 'Numbers' - Trashz Recordz
One of the dirtiest, robotic electro tracks I’ve heard in a while! The beats on this seriously kick.

Essonita feat. Love Dimension - 'All We Need' (Denis Sender Remix) - ETM Recordings
ETM, sister label of ETT, takes the talented vocals of Love Dimension to more heights with this deeply moving track.

Keep those bodies moving, check out these great new tracks and we'll touch base again soon!  ;)

END: the DJ's New Music Best Picks: October 2013

Note the changes: no column name and no top 10. Now we have the "best picks"- the reasons are that I didn't really want to categorise all the new tunes that come my way with only 10, although those choices will still be featured. Secondly, I wanted to emphasise the newer releases aspect; no previous month's picks will be shown on the following month- so make sure to catch up with all new music on the previous columns!

Let's get down to it- the top 10 picks first:

Sebastian Komor- 'Body Move To Body Music' | Xenomorph Productions
Seb Komor (Icon Of Coil, Komor Kommando) is among the best producers of electronic music hands down- and he's now releasing original material under his own digital label, named after his production studio. This first self-release track is a promise of the work we can expect. Amazing! Get this now on Bandcamp, Beatport, iTunes and other outlets.

Ohm- 'Car Crash' | Artoffact Records
This new project from Chris Peterson (Front Line Assembly) and Craig Huxtable (Noise Unit) is so awesome; this track is but one of many outstanding songs from their self-titled first album. Don't miss out on this one!

Alter Der Ruine- 'Horizon Slide' | Negative Gain
I've had the honour of being able to check out some new material from Alter Der Ruine to be released on their upcoming album. Each of the few I've managed to get my hands on are so fantastic, my main thought always go to "I can't wait until everyone gets to hear this new work"! 'Horizon Slide' will show the evolution of ADR. Be on the lookout for this one.

Ginger Snap5- 'Polaris' | Skyqode
After a few years of giving us single tracks and remixes that grabbed our attention, Ukraine's Ginger Snap5 finally releases his full album 'Snapped By You' on Skyqode- and it is a masterpiece. 'Polaris' is one of the amazing songs found on this new album. The vocals are deeply thoughtful and the melodies are as always so very well done. Ginger Snap5 is back and unleashed on the international circuit.

Stahlnebel & Black Selket- 'Go Ahead' | Advoxya Records
This dual act from Germany and The Netherlands have been giving the world quality music for a handful of years. Their new EP being released on Advoxya promises more of the same calibre or work; this track is a bit different production-wise. Love this.

Karybde & Scylla- 'Database' | ETT Recordings
How I love the ETT label. Each release seems to be chosen with great care and production work- and this new track from K & S- none other than the owners of the label themselves- reminds us all of that fact. This track is a piece of art for the club floors. Listen to this ASAP!

Omar Cito Perez & Ben Orsound- 'Avalancha' (Ben Orsound Instrumental Remix) | Supermarket Records
I love this Spanish label's work; great quality progressive dance music that Perez delivers.

Diskonnekted- 'Yesteryears' (Neuroticfish mix) | Alfa Matrix
The lyrical content and vocal stylings are quite smooth, while Neuroticfish's version of this track will have everyone anticipate more of his production work! Also check out Edge Of Dawn's remix.

Love?- 'This City' (Club Mix) | Emmo.biz
The original version while short and sweet is catchy enough, yet the club mix fleshes out the work quite well for the dance floor.

Blue Sense- 'Aurora Sunrise' | Blue Sense Recordings
Blue Sense from The Netherlands never ceases to amaze me with not only the quality of his output, but the expert sounds nearly every track carries. He's been on a tear this month with new beats and this moving track is but one of them. Check out the link for more great music!

Here are some other tracks not to sleep on!

Narayana- 'Metrovision' | ETT Recordings
What's this- another ETT release on this month's top picks? As I've stated, the label is THAT good. Check out this new upcoming track that will be released for us all to enjoy soon!

Covenant- 'Ignorance and Bliss' | Metropolis Records
Another strong track from the latest "Leaving Babylon" album, this new Covenant song is very well textured and deeply moving while Simonsson's signature vocal style shines through.

Pride and Fall- 'Hollow' ([:SITD:] Remix) | Dependent Records
Two awesome projects join forces for the Dependent 2013 compilation. Another signature remix!

Tomo Hachiga- 'Soldier March' | Login Records
Login Recs continue to give us some of the best dark & minimal tech styles of music. This new track from Hachiga is masterfully done, the tones very much owning up to the title's theme.

Rudemates- 'Mesmerized' (Doc Trashz Remix) | Trashz Recordz
The Trashz Recordz label from Italy loves giving listeners the best 'dirty' electro styles; this new Doc Trashz remix is no exception. Heavy and strong.

Interface- Stateless | Nilaihah Records
The new album release "The Perfect World" is proving to be among Interface's best work to date. Stateless is one of many songs I think many will latch onto. Don't miss the entire album!

Aengeldust- 'Dancefloor Killer' (vs. SVE) | Alfa Matrix
This upcoming track has a killer noise groove. Looking forward to see what the rest of the album will sound like.

Noir- 'A Forest' | Metropolis Records
Yet another Cure cover, this one has a great dark and relaxed feel to it. Check this one out.

And don't forget to check out last month's new music article for more new music that's still fresh to the ears. This year has seen some fantastic releases out by artists familiar and new!

Motor Neurone with END: the DJ

Motor Neurone is a new guest column here on IVM spotlighting new releases and artists in dark electronic music. Straight through the vein into your nervous system...

It's an honour to take part in the music featured here at INTRAVENOUS MAGAZINE; narrowing down a starting point halfway through 2013 was a difficult challenge as there have been so many outstanding releases these recent months but now that I'm here, let's get this machine operational.
The focus of each Motor Neurone column will not only be the new releases in the darker styles of electronic music from artists both new and familiar, but also the music that makes you move. In supporting music from many independent (and a few established) labels & artists from the many genres others may describe as industrial dance, EBM, dark electro, ad infinitum. Each month you'll find a new music top 10 compiled by me from the reactions & support from the listeners/fans at large (including myself) and in-between you may find more detailed discussions, interviews and reviews on other aspects of dark electronic music culture- most especially club culture. So to start, let's have -

NEW MUSIC TOP 10 AUGUST 2013

1. Parralox- Eye in the Sky- Subterrane Records
This synth pop act from Australia has released an album of covers "Recovery". Among the many classics with their own unique twist is this cover from the Alan Parsons Project. An interesting choice that works so very well!

2. Daniel B & Seven- BTB- ETM Recordings
The new sub-label of ETT Recordings, this very moving, textured and deep track catches listeners from the very first beat!

3. The People's Republic of Europe- Warrior- New Darkness Recordings
TPROE continues to unleash wave after wave of fantastic beats- this track is off of the new "Feel the Power" album. Don't miss the entire release!

4. Dark Age- Afterlife (Eisbrecher Club Cut)- AFM Records
One of the many fine remixes off Dark Age's Afterlife EP release.

5. Mental Discipline- WDYWFM feat. Spekralized (Assemblage 23 Remix)- Skyqode Records
MD's latest release still going very strong and continues to grab every listeners' full attention.

6. Funker Vogt- Gott Noch Nicht- Metropolis Records
One of strong tracks from FV's Companions in Crime album!

7. Stahlschlag- Roots- self-released
Stahlschag's now "Average Aggressive" album has so many amazing noise tracks- this is but one of the stand outs.

8. Moon.74- How I Feel- Infacted Recordings
This Electro act from Germany's Infacted label has both a new single and album release that has very solid production work and fantastic vocals. Be on the look out for Moon.74!

9. Jean Agoriia- Terra- Login Records
This bass heavy, low frequency killer out of Spain's Login Recs is awesome!

10. Pride and Fall- Passionate Pain- Metropolis Records
After a lengthy absence, Pride and Fall's back with the new "Of Lust and Desire" album. This track grabbed me right away; response has been strong with this one.
