Blutengel releases video for 'Black'

German Darkwave band BlutEngel, fronted by Chris Pohl, released the music video for 'Black', the first and lead single of the mini album of the same name. The track was previously included in the band's latest studio album, 'Leitbild' (Model, in English).
The video, directed by Silvan BĂĽge, despite being pretty simple, includes the usual elements in the band's well known videos, characterised by playing with eroticism and Gothic aesthetics in unusual ways, in addition to this time include supernatural aspects of dark suburban fantasy.
Black, the mini album, consists on the title track, two remixes of it and five original songs, one of which, Blood Rain, is available to be reproduced in different portals. The disc is being sold on diverse digital stores.

Review: BlutEngel – 'Complete'

BLUTENGEL
'Complete'
OUT OF LINE

German vampire pop returns in habitually bombastic form with the release of 'Complete' the lead single from BlutEngel's forthcoming tenth full-length studio album 'Leitbild. No strangers to combining soaring choruses, infectiously melodic leads, and steady dance beats, the band's darkwave meets synthpop formula is fully intact and has its eyes locked on European dancefloors.

The title track 'Complete' is an anthemic slice of Europop flirting dark synthpop that ticks all of the boxes in terms of what fans will want from a BlutEngel release. The remix courtesy of Massive Ego kicks up the harder dance elements of the song and as a result creates a truly undeniable floor-filler.

'Nowhere' harks back to the early BlutEngel sound – with a little more of the futurepop elements and an up-tempo rhythmic backbone that compliments the soaring melodies of the title track nicely. The single closes with the instrumental 'Dusk', which has a far more rhythmic ebm structure to it for a nice experimental and unexpected treat to end on.

In terms of production the now recognisably bombastic dark pop production of BlutEngel remains intact and to their usual uncompromising sheen. The songs, even thos that hark back to earlier sounds, still have that glossy sheen that would make mainstream pop acts jealous.

This is a strong lead single that hints at some very nice things on the upcoming tenth album. 'Complete' is a great, dance-friendly pop track that lives up to an already impressive body of work, while the b-sides hint at a more old school element returning to the fore. 'Leitbild' is shaping up to be an interesting album.

Blutengel announce classical music tour

German vampyre-pop outfit, led by Chris Pohl, have announced the band will embark on a tour with an ensemble of classically-trained musicians who will transform the group's dance-friendly synthpop into a symphonic experience.

Since the band's performance at the Gothic Meets Klassik festival at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig they have incorporated an acoustic version of their song 'Die With You' into their touring set, which has been met with an enthusiastic audience response. The band then decided that this should not remain a one-off and therefore to add some selected dates to their schedule this year in order to fully explore this new found side.

The band will also be joined by another, as yet unnamed, act who will open the shows.

Tour Dates:

11.10.2013 Dresden / Alter Schlachthof- Ticket € 32,90 order here
26.10.2013 Oberhausen / Turbinenhalle - Ticket € 32,90 order here
09.11.2013 Berlin - Huxley`s neue Welt - Ticket 32,90 order here
29.11.2013 Hamburg / Markthalle - Ticket € 32,90 order here

Review: Blutengel - 'Monument'

BLUTENGEL
'Monument'
OUT OF LINE

Blutengel's lascivious blend of vampiric synthpop has seen Chris Pohl and his band enjoy dance-floor success for fifteen years and the band's eighth album, 'Monument', feels very much like a culmination of that near decade-and-a-half's work. The album's production feels more opulent than it ever has and the band have synthesized the best elements of their many hit singles to great effect across the fourteen tracks here.

There is nothing wildly different on offer on 'Monument' that fans are not already well accustomed to. The catchy synthesizer melodies, driving dance beats and symphonic embellishments coupled with compulsive sing-a-long choruses are safe and well. But where previous albums have tended to feel a little formulaic across extended listening, 'Monument' on the other hand does a great job of holding the listeners attention. Yes, Blutengel are first and foremost a dance band, but here it feels like they have sharpened their focus, blending the best that their anthemic sound has to offer.
Songs like 'You Walk Away', 'All These Lies', 'Wilst Du?' and 'Lebensrichter' are prime examples of Pohl and co.'s penchant for writing excellent club hits while 'Tears Might Dry' and 'Save Our Souls' provide a pop grounding that will work very well live. Even the emotional ballads such as 'Die Zeit', which have sometimes in the past felt a little corny, manage to come off rather well here.

The production is perhaps the best of any of the band's records, which is saying something as they have always been an act that strives to put out well constructed albums which, as a result, has seen them flirting with chart success in their native land. Yet 'Monument' overwhelmingly has the feeling of a band looking over their own back catalogue in order to craft their definitive statement, which Pohl has undeniably pulled off here. Though such a consolidation of their sound raises the question as to where Blutengel can go from here?
